The Olives in Solidarity T-shirt, were designed in support of Palestine and our proceeds go to various charity organizations that support Palestinian refugees and for Palestinian refugees also residing in Egypt. The T-shirt features a hand-embroidered olive branch design and a quote by the extraordinary Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish, carefully silk-screen printed on each piece. The Olives in Solidarity T-shirt is a continuation of The Sahara Collection's #SEW (Sahara Empowers Women). Under #SEW, we work with organisations and projects that support women by strengthening skills, creativity and creating employment and income.
Currently, our T-shirts are embroidered by both the Kheirwabaraka and the New Women as well as Threads of Hope. The T-shirts themselves are produced by local women at our factory.
#SEW is working both with the women at Threads of Hope (ToH) and the Kheirwabaraka and the New Women organization to embroider the T-shirts. ToH are an independent training and production centre, founded by Malaika Linens, for hand-embroidery, corded work and khayameya. ToH trains around 40 underprivileged Egyptian and refugee women, every two months and once proficient, the women are offered work at the centre. Currently ToH employs 160 women by providing income, skill and the ability to work from home.
Kheirwabaraka and the New Women Organization is an NGO that empowers families and transforms communities across Egypt through evidence-based programs in education, health and employment, supporting individuals from childhood to parenthood.
#SEW under The Sahara Collection aims to work with many different women’s organizations to create T-shirts that support different causes.
